On Wednesday March 25, Victorian-based board members Megan Cassar, Monica Smyrek and Marg Joiner hosted a networking event for members and potential members of AAMoV. The attendees were mostly managers of volunteers who had heard of AAMoV and wanted to find out more about the benefits of membership. Of the 15 volunteer managers in attendance, only 5 were current members of AAMoV.
From 5.30pm Marg, Monica and Megan provided yummy food and drinks and as the attendees arrived, there was meeting of new people, and some famililar friendly faces too. Once everyone had arrived, and at the request of a few potential new AAMoV members, Megan told the group all about AAMoV. Topic covered included:
AAMoV is a membership based association for individuals involved with the management of volunteer programs in Australia and New Zealand. It’s the only professional, member-based association in Australasia of its kind which is quite remarkable given that Australia and New Zealand top the world internationally when it comes to volunteering time (According to the World Giving Index 2014). This makes it all the more important for AAMoV to provide support to and recognise those who manage the resources our communities are giving.
AAMoV is run by 10 board members and 2 co-opted members – all volunteers, majority of which are working full time in volunteer management.
Mission is to see Volunteer Management as a profession whose vital role in society is valued and respected, with AAMoV's lead role being to promote and recognise managers of volunteers – one example being the Volunteer Manager Award of Excellence awarded each year on International Volunteer Managers Day (5 November).
Aims to develop and encourage access to professional development and networking opportunities, this event being the 1st Victorian networking event.
Second networking event in Victoria will be on 29 October with Rob Jackson
